Meet Indumathi. Out of obligation to her family and to ease their financial struggles, she got married at the age of 17. Her husband was an alcoholic who physically and emotionally abused her daily and would not allow her to get a job for fear that she would become independent. She describes this dark period of her life as living a “slave life” filled with hopelessness, until she finally had the courage to leave her husband after being married for 10 years. When she moved to the city with her two children to live with her mother, she learned of the AIM Tailoring Training Center and enrolled in the 10-month program.
Indumathi, who always had an interest in tailoring and computers, but never an opportunity to learn, dove in and started feeling encouragement for the first time in her life. Her days of hopelessness and loneliness have now turned into days of joy and hope, coming to a place she calls a “place of peace." She calls her peers and teachers at the Tailoring Center her “new family.” From there, she has graduated, learning not only tailoring and computer skills, but also who she truly is.
She says “My marriage broke my spirit. I had no voice and no freedom. I also had no one to help me get out of my despair. It is the kind, encouraging and motivational words from my adopted family at Asia Impact Ministries that has helped me become the strong and independent women I am today. I am forever grateful.” While at the Center, she also learned how to pray and worship Jesus. She says “Jesus has been faithful to me and from the time I joined the center, whatever I have lost I have gained it all - my self respect, my confidence, I know I can do great things. Jesus has given me the strength to do it.”
